VaxThera Puts Colombia on the Global Biotechnology Innovation Map

  • VaxThera is strengthening strategic partnerships with leading global organizations in the biotechnology industry.
  • These agreements advance technology transfer, innovation, and the development of regional capabilities.
  • Colombia is increasingly positioning itself as a relevant player within the international biotechnology ecosystem.
  • These collaborations strengthen health resilience and health sovereignty across Latin America.

Medellín, Colombia, October 2026. Colombia’s biotechnology sector continues to gain visibility on the international stage. Throughout 2026, VaxThera strengthened strategic partnerships with leading organizations across Europe, Asia, and the United States to advance technology transfer initiatives, vaccine development, biologics manufacturing, and healthcare innovation, reinforcing the scientific and industrial capabilities of Colombia and Latin America.

The agreements established during the year include collaborations with the Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume; GC Biopharma and the RIGHT Foundation of South Korea; U.S.-based biotechnology company Codagenix; Hetero Biopharma; as well as financial backing from the European Investment Bank and the European Commission. Together, these initiatives span technology transfer for influenza vaccines, the development of next-generation yellow fever vaccines, expanded access to biologic therapies, and the strengthening of regional manufacturing capabilities.

One of the most significant milestones was VaxThera’s selection by the RIGHT Foundation to lead, alongside GC Biopharma, an influenza vaccine technology transfer project in Colombia. This initiative makes VaxThera the first organization in Latin America to receive direct funding from the foundation and is designed to strengthen local capabilities in vaccine production, specialized workforce training, quality control, and regulatory management.

At the same time, the company continued to expand its international cooperation agenda aimed at strengthening regional health sovereignty. In April, VaxThera announced a strategic collaboration with the Serum Institute of India to develop programs focused on vaccines relevant to immunization schedules. It later established a partnership with Hetero Biopharma to expand access to biologic therapies in Latin America and reached an agreement with Codagenix to advance the development of a next-generation yellow fever vaccine.

These achievements were further reinforced by the announcement of a financing package led by the European Investment Bank and supported by the European Commission, aimed at strengthening VaxThera’s manufacturing, technology transfer, and research capabilities. The initiative will help expand the infrastructure required to advance regional vaccine and biologics production capacity.

The combination of technology transfer, scientific collaboration, next-generation vaccine development, expanded manufacturing capabilities, and international financing makes 2026 a defining year in VaxThera’s consolidation. The agreements reached during this period reflect the growing interest of global stakeholders in developing long-term projects in Colombia and reinforce the country’s position as an increasingly relevant player in the international biotechnology industry.

"This year, we have seen leading organizations from different parts of the world choose to work alongside VaxThera to advance innovation, technology transfer, and productive development projects. Beyond the agreements themselves, what is truly significant is the international recognition of Colombia’s scientific capabilities and talent. These partnerships allow us to connect global knowledge with the needs of our region and accelerate solutions that contribute to greater health security for millions of people." Mentioned Jorge Emilio Osorio, CEO of VaxThera

The confidence that international organizations have placed in VaxThera reflects a growing trend: recognition of Colombia’s scientific, technological, and manufacturing potential to participate in projects with global impact. Through these collaborations, the company continues to strengthen capabilities that support knowledge transfer, specialized talent development, and the consolidation of a stronger biotechnology industry across the region.

"Each of these collaborations contributes a critical element to the development of the regional biotechnology ecosystem: access to technology, talent development, manufacturing capacity, research capabilities, and new opportunities for cooperation. What we are building is not only a platform for developing and manufacturing vaccines and biologics, but a regional capability that will enable a more autonomous response to the health challenges of today and tomorrow." Added Juan Pablo Hernández, COO of VaxThera

The partnerships established throughout 2026 bring together stakeholders from India, South Korea, the United States, and Europe around a shared objective: strengthening the scientific, technological, and manufacturing capabilities needed to address current and future public health challenges. Collectively, these agreements create an international collaboration network that drives innovation, accelerates technology transfer, and helps expand access to vaccines and biologic products across Colombia and Latin America.
